Prepare your AC for summer
Summer time means increased air conditioning use. For your family to remain comfortable during the heat of the day, your AC may run several hours a day. This also means that before the really hot weather sets in, you need to make sure that your air conditioning is ready for summer. Here are some of the things that should be done:
- Filters – Check your filters carefully before you turn your air conditioning unit on for the season. Before you can be assured that your unit will be running at maximum efficiency, you need to have a clean filter. Not only will this save you money but it will also prevent hazardous conditions that could cause a fire or ruin your air conditioner;
- Compressor – Your compressor could fail or become damaged if not properly maintained. Generally, it is a good idea to have your compressor inspected before the summer heat bears down on your family. If the compressor fails, your air conditioning system could fail as well;
- Thermostat – Dust, debris and a host of other problems can cause your thermostat to malfunction. Generally, it is a good idea to clean the case annually and have your thermostat inspected for problems. This can prevent problems from cropping up, which they almost always will;
- Freeon recharge – If your air conditioning system is not working as well as you think it should, you may need a freeon charge. This means you need a freeon recovery and recharging specialist since freeon disposal is governed by numerous rules.
